Soak a cotton ball in tea water and apply on hyperpigmentation areas twice a day.

Repeat every day for more than four weeks, six days a week.

6. Green Tea Extract

Research suggests that green tea extract may have a depigmenting effect when applied to the skin. You can buy green tea extract and apply it as directed. Some websites suggest applying green tea bags to dark spots for a mild effect, although there is no evidence to support this claim.

If you want to give it a try, follow these steps:

Soak a green tea bag in boiled water for three to five minutes.

Remove the tea bag from the water and let it cool – you don't want to burn your skin.

Rub the tea bag on your dark spots.

Repeat twice a day till you get results.

7. Licorice Extract

Licorice extracts contain active ingredients that have been shown to lighten melasma and hyperpigmentation caused by sun exposure. Licorice extract topical creams are available over the counter. Use as directed on packaging.

8. Tomato Paste

A study published in the British Journal of Dermatology in 2011 found that lycopene-rich tomato paste protects the skin from both short-term and long-term aspects of photo damage. Study participants consumed 55 grams of tomato paste mixed with olive oil daily for 12 weeks.

Milk, buttermilk and even sour milk have been shown to effectively lighten skin discoloration. The ingredient responsible for this effect is lactic acid.

To use any of these to treat pigmentation:

Soak a cotton ball in milk.

Rub it on the skin with dark spots twice a day.

As we know, hyper-pigmentation is the result of direct sun exposure. Vitamin E neutralizes the effects of harmful UV rays as it is an antioxidant that repairs and protects our skin. It can be applied with castor oil, honey or papaya to enhance the results. You can leave this mixture on your face overnight and then rinse off in the morning to see the results. Vitamin E is already being used in many skincare products like anti-aging creams.

11. Orchid Extract

According to research, orchid extract is just as effective as vitamin C hyperpigmentation treatment. Applying an orchid-rich extract to the skin for eight weeks improves the size and appearance of dark spots.
